Geoff Sinker here and welcome to this course in which we look at look at the subject called the Blues turnaround.

The majority of contemporary blues music is based on what is termed a 12-bar format. That is, the main body of a song follows a set pattern of chords over 12 bars of music that is repeated over and over. Some songs may have several different patterns to give them a bit of variety, but the guts of the song will normally be based on a set chord pattern for every 12 bars of music. So, if someone says to you, “play a 12-bar”, this is what they are referring to.

In this course you will learn 20 great turarounds that can played over bars 11 & 12 in the Keys of E and A.

As you work through the examples you can practice playing the turnarounds using the backing tracks that I have included. The backing tracks are in the Keys of E and A.

Once you have learned how to play a few of the turn arounds in E then open the backing track using Media Player or KM Player.

I would recommend starting with Easy Blues Shuffle in E and 80bpm. This is the easiest track play along with. Now apply the turnarounds that you have learned as you play along with the track.

Once you have learned all the turnarounds in the key of E try playing along with the backing track using all the examples.

Now do the same in the key of A.
